Who We Are
In the 1980s, Marsha York Solmssen and Marion M. Thompson, both social workers with advanced degrees, founded Intervention Associates in the Philadelphia suburbs. At the start, their organization set out primarily to help find and manage care for individuals with special needs. Solmssen and Thompson observed that bank officers, attorneys and other professionals charged with administering special needs trusts often found themselves struggling to solve complex care-related problems for their disabled or chronically ill clients. Intervention Associates provided these administrators with welcome assistance: professional evaluations of their clients’ needs, individual and family counseling, monitoring of in-home care, help with medical forms, and other valuable services. Before long, Intervention Associates was helping a wide array of people get the comprehensive care they needed, including children and adults with severe disabilities and mental illness.

Intervention Associates Today
Today, Intervention Associates is one of the oldest and most trusted providers of care management and home care services in the greater Philadelphia region. We are a nonprofit company, and as such, the welfare of the individuals and families we serve is our number one priority.
Our experienced staff includes registered nurses, social workers and professional care managers who operate as a team to address complex issues and to locate, coordinate and oversee our clients’ care. Unlike many other organizations, we also employ our own carefully screened and trained certified nursing assistants, home health aides and social work assistants—supervised by registered nurses—who directly provide nonmedical care.
Intervention Associates is a fully licensed home care agency in the state of Pennsylvania, and is a member of the Greater Philadelphia and Main Line Chambers of Commerce. In 2000, Intervention Associates joined Friends Life Care (see inset box, below) as a subsidiary of Friends Life Care System, a nonprofit Quaker-based organization.
What It Means to Be Quaker-Based
The Society of Friends, commonly known as Quakers, has a rich history of service in the Philadelphia region. Most area residents have heard of Friends schools and hospitals, or Friends programs for the aging. Intervention Associates is not a religious organization; we are a secular firm proudly steeped in the Quaker ideals of our parent company—integrity, inclusion, compassion and respect for the inherent dignity and worth of each person. In the Quaker tradition, we focus on ability versus disability, and recognize that prolonging and promoting independence is crucial to maintaining an individual’s quality of life.
Intervention Associates and Friends Life Care are subsidiaries of Friends Life Care System. Friends Life Care offers affordable long-term-care and integrated vitality improvement plans to enrolled members aged 40 to 81 who enjoy relative good health, live independently, and wish to remain at home and independent as they age. Like Intervention Associates, Friends Life Care provides care management, home care and related concierge services through its own highly credentialed, carefully screened staff.
